CIS Tower is more than a landmark on Manchester’s skyline, it is a defining part of the city’s commercial and architectural identity. Completed in 1962 as the headquarters of the Co-operative Insurance Society, the Grade II listed tower introduced a new scale and ambition to post-war Manchester and remains one of the UK’s most important modernist office buildings.

The ambition is to protect the building’s architectural character and civic presence while exploring flexible workspace, improved amenities, active ground-floor uses and a stronger arrival experience.
By retaining and adapting the existing structure, restoring significant heritage features and improving environmental performance, the project has the potential to become a leading example of sustainable commercial regeneration. The goal is not simply to refurbish an office building, but to return an icon to active use and secure its relevance within Manchester for decades to come.
