MCR Property Group has completed the acquisition of the Slate Portfolio in West Yorkshire for £3.575 million, strengthening its foothold in the region’s housing market.

The portfolio brings together 50 family homes across three neighbourhoods close to Huddersfield , 35 houses on Chickenley Lane in Dewsbury, seven on Cross Lane in Stocksmoor and eight on Holme View Avenue in Upperthong.

All of the properties are let under a long-term management agreement with Kirklees Council, securing much-needed family housing until at least 2037–2039. The arrangement provides certainty for both tenants and landlord, while reinforcing MCR’s commitment to long-term partnerships with local authorities.

Nick Lake, spokesperson for MCR Property Group, said: “This acquisition underlines our confidence in the Yorkshire market and in Huddersfield’s role as a growing regional hub. By working with Kirklees Council, we are able to provide stability for local families while making a long-term investment in the community. It’s exactly the kind of opportunity that matches our strategy of building a balanced and resilient portfolio.”

MCR said the deal is part of a wider push into the region as the group looks to diversify its holdings beyond major city-centre developments. Huddersfield’s strong transport links to Leeds and Manchester, combined with rising demand for good quality homes across West Yorkshire, made the portfolio a natural fit.

“This is about more than adding to our portfolio,” Lake added. “It’s about ensuring we are investing in places where demand is strong, where partnerships can thrive and where we see growth over the long term.”

The acquisition is part of a wider pipeline of regional transactions MCR is pursuing through 2025, as the group looks to cement its position as one of the UK’s most active and diversified property investors.
